She laughed. “What, you think I’d be terrible?” She didn’t feel the need to point out that if she hadn’t been a prefect, her boyfriend would have been.
“No, I just… it gave you an excuse to not break rules. It gave you an excuse to just… be around.”
“You mean to be boring,” she joked, nudging him lightly.
He laughed, “Yeah, yeah. Like you could ever be boring.”
“And I did mine this morning,” she laughed. She paused a moment and looked over at him. ”What do you think I would have been like this year if I wasn’t a prefect?”
“I… well,” he paused. “I don’t know,” he said honestly, looking up at her. “I’m just glad that was something we didn’t have to find out.”

“Alright,” she said, turning towards the stairs down to the dungeons.
“I mean, is that okay with you?”
She shrugged. ”I’m not up to anything, so it doesn’t matter to me.”

“And I’m so glad it did,” she smiled, slowing to a stop as they reached the Entrance Hall. ”Down? Up?”
“Uh… down, I think,” he said after a moment’s contemplation.
“Alright,” she said, turning towards the stairs down to the dungeons.

“Oh well. Lucky that didn’t happen.”

“I know,” she said, lifting his hand to her lips to kiss it briefly. ”But we’re leaving together, at least.”
“Thankfully,” he said with a smile. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if one of us had to go first.”
“Been miserable,” she laughed.
“Very true,” he chuckled.
